
Brian Heatherman, LtCol USMC Retired
President, 3rd Battalion 1st Marines Association
During Brian’s service with the U.S. Marines, he served primarily with Marine Infantry Units. Enlisting in 1992, Brian began his journey as an 0352 Tow Missile Gunner in 4th Tank Battalion, Amarillo Texas. Upon graduating from Texas Tech University in 1995, Brian was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant and began his career as a Marine Infantry Officer.
Brian served on and off ship in multiple global locations with the 22nd and 31st Marine Expeditionary Units, 1st Marine Division, Special Operations Command Korea, as well as Marine Corps Security Forces Bahrain. As a Marine Captain with the Thundering Third (BOTC!), one of the proudest moments in his career, Brian had the honor to command both Headquarters and Service Company (The Sharkmen) in the initial throws of OIFIIB and Company L (the Lima Warriors), a reinforced rifle company of nearly 300 Marines, Sailors, Soldiers, and Airman during the Battle of Fallujah, November 2004.
In September 2023, Brian was again honored to be asked to serve as President, 3d Battalion 1st Marines Association with mission to continue connect V31 veterans, promote wellness, and support the active-duty Marines and Sailors of the Thundering Third.
Brian lives in Carlsbad California with his lovely wife Jackie and amazing children, Brooke (17) and Jake (14).
