2026 Updates: Board Roles, Reunions, and Growing the 3/1 Association

3/1 Marines and Families,

As we move into 2026, I want to take a moment to thank everyone who stayed engaged, showed up, and supported the 3/1 Association over the past year. The strength of this organization has always come from participation, connection, and people willing to step forward when help is needed.

2026 is a year of growth for the association. That means increasing involvement, planning ahead for upcoming reunions, and continuing to build something that honors the legacy of this battalion and supports our Marines and families.

Below are several important updates and opportunities to get involved.

Open Board Positions: Treasurer and Secretary

We are currently seeking individuals to fill two open board positions: Treasurer and Secretary.

These roles require approximately two hours per month, with additional time needed during the 60 days leading up to reunions. Board members also participate in voting and help guide the direction and decisions of the association.

If you have experience with organization, communication, or financial oversight, or simply want to serve the 3/1 community in a meaningful way, I encourage you to reach out.

To express interest or ask questions, please contact me directly at melketchel@gmail.com.

Reunion Planning Committee – Volunteers Needed

We are forming a volunteer committee to assist with planning upcoming reunions.

  • October 2026: Mini reunion at Camp Pendleton
  • 2027: Large-scale reunion (location to be determined)

Reunions require early planning, coordination, and fundraising. This committee will help support those efforts and ensure these events remain meaningful, well-organized, and accessible to our members and families.

No prior experience is required, just a willingness to help and be part of the process.

Monthly Board Meetings

Board meetings are held on the first Tuesday of every month at 6:00 PM PST, via Zoom.

These meetings allow us to stay aligned, make informed decisions, and keep the association moving forward.

Members-Only Facebook Group (Coming Soon)

We are in the process of launching a members-only Facebook group for the 3/1 Association. This page will be used to share updates, event information, reunion planning details, and association news between reunions. Once the group is live, we will share the link so members can join and stay connected.

New Merchandise Coming Soon

New 3/1 Association merchandise is currently in development. More details will be shared soon. If you have ideas on what you would like to see – please let us know. If you have contacts with a supplier licensed to sell USMC merchandise, please let us know.

Membership Drive – Help Us Grow

Our membership has remained steady, and now we are focused on growth.

Membership helps support reunions, strengthens connections across the battalion, preserves our shared legacy, and supports Gold Star families connected to 3/1.

Please help us spread the word and encourage fellow Marines and family members to join.

Looking Ahead

2026 is about increasing participation, strengthening connections, and continuing to build an organization that reflects the values and history of 3/1.

Thank you for being part of this association and for continuing to show up for one another.

Respectfully,

Melissa Hanks Ketchel
President, 3/1 Association
